Sleeping Bags - Initial Fundraising Complete

Any moe donations should be marked "Sleeping Bag Project" and will be forwarded to purchase more.

Those troops who have already received these bags emailed us with thanks and gratitude and they just love the bags.

Through this one of a kind program, VFW provides monthly “Free Call Days” to troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, as well as free phone cards to hospitalized veterans and troops recovering from injuries. New fathers, anxious parents and worried spouses are so grateful for the chance to talk to their loved ones!

Although the US Military supplies sleeping bags, they are not current technology as issued to Navy SEALS, Special Forces units and other special groups.  The "issue" bag is bulky (taking up valuable space) and not rated for extreme weather.  As a matter of fact, it is the same bag issued to veterans who went to Korea in the 50s.  Current technology has advanced drastically and our VFW Post has joined others to outfit 44 marines with these new design sleeping bags.

Should you decide to purchase one or more sleeping bags for this group, send your checks to Hollis VFW and mark them for the "Sleeping Bag" project.  We will add your donation to the $600.00 we are sending from Post Relief funds to help fund this $9,680.00 effort.

UPDATE:

All money collected is being sent to Jerry Wigutow at “Wiggy’s”

Jerry will ship sleeping bags, without shipping charges, as soon as money comes in. The bags are going to B Company of the 1st Battalion, 501st Airborne.

The Hollis VFW Post thanks all who sent in donations for your generosity.
